Finland’s former rally driver and current European Parliament member, Ari Vatanen. Vatanen spent his childhood in the rural area of Tuupovaara in Eastern Finland, despite being born in Espoo. He began his professional rallying career in 1970, and by 1981, while driving for Ford, he had won the World Rally Championship. In 1987, 1988, and 1989, he drove for Peugeot and won the Paris-Dakar Rally. After Peugeot pulled out of the global rally championship series in 1986, he went on to win the prestigious Pike’s Peak with the French manufacturer.

As a result of his time spent with a French rally team, he purchased a property and vineyard in the south of France in 1993 and has lived there ever since.
