Bethany Joy Lenz Bio

Bethany Joy Lenz born April 2, 1981, is an actress, singer-songwriter, and filmmaker from the United States. She is best known for her role as Haley James Scott in the WB CW television drama One. Lenz, then seventeen, played Reva Shayne’s teenage clone on the CBS Daytime soap opera Guiding Light for nine episodes. After receiving such positive feedback from viewers, critics, and Guiding Light executives, Lenz was recast as Michelle Bauer Santos after Rebecca Budig’s departure. According to CBS producer Mickey Dwyer-Dobbin, this unusual move was “unheard of” in the industry.

She graduated from Eastern Christian High School in New Jersey in 1999, while working on Guiding Light. She also landed the role of Rose Cronin in Mary and Rhoda, a made-for-TV film starring Mary Tyler Moore and Valerie Harper as Mary Richards and Rhoda Morgenstern, respectively.

Lenz was juggling a heavy storyline, a television movie in which she played Mary Tyler Moore’s daughter, a one-year run of a New York cabaret called Foxy Ladies Love/Boogie 70’s Explosion, and the lead role in an independent film at the time. Lenz also appeared in two pilots, one as Paul Sorvino’s daughter and the other as the lead in the WB’s 1972.

She left her role as Michelle Bauer Santos at the end of her two-year contract with The Guiding Light and relocated from New York City to Los Angeles. In Los Angeles, Lenz was directed by Garry Marshall in Happy Days: the Musical (musical directors Carole King and Paul Williams) as Pinky Tuscadero, and by Arthur Allan Seidleman Lenz also appeared as a guest on Off Centre, Charmed, Felicity, Maybe It’s Me, and The Guardian during this time. In 2002, Lenz joined the cast of Bring It On Again as Marni Potts, the varsity cheerleading squad’s co-captain.

Lenz was cast in the WB television series One Tree Hill when she was twenty-two years old. She first tried out for the roles of Brooke Davis and Haley James. She was cast as Haley James, the stereotypical girl-next-door who is best friends with Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray) and the wife of Nathan Scott (James Lafferty).

Lenz was offered the role of Belle in Beauty and the Beast while it was still in production on Broadway during her time on One Tree Hill, but she turned it down due to scheduling conflicts. Lenz co-starred with Kate Voegele in an episode of Life Unexpected as part of a crossover event between One Tree Hill and Life Unexpected. Lenz made her directorial debut in the sixth season.  She approached producer Greg Prange in 2007 with the intention of directing but was not given the opportunity until two years later.

Throughout Season 6, Lenz shadowed several directors, observed their preparations, and went on location scouts. Lenz went on to direct two more episodes. [specify] One Tree Hill returned for thirteen episodes in its ninth and final season after eight seasons on the air. On April 4, 2012, the show came to an end. In 2012, Lenz made the decision to focus on projects that were “strategically designed to move her career in a direction that was not quite the same as what she was doing on One Tree Hill.”

t was announced in September 2012 that Lenz would appear as a guest star on an episode of Men at Work. She portrayed Meg, a single mother whom the character Tyler begins to date. She admitted that the first few days were difficult because she hadn’t done comedy in a long time.

It was announced in March 2013 that Lenz would have a recurring role on Dexter. Cassie, her character, was described as “an attractive former finance executive seeking a quieter life.” In the final season, Lenz’s character appeared in four episodes.

In late September 2013, Lenz was cast as Lauren Byrd in the E! pilot Songbyrd. Lauren, a brilliant songwriter, employs a small staff, including her sister, to enable and manage her eccentric, yet wildly successful process. Songbyrd began production in late January 2014 in New York City, but the show was not picked up by E! Lenz was cast as Zoe in the ABC drama The Catch, directed by Shonda Rhimes, in the second quarter of 2015.

On May 18, 2015, Lenz announced her replacement, writing, “Looks like they need a different type for Zoe, so I’ll be replaced,” though she encouraged fans to continue watching the show. Grace, Lenz’s friend Kristin Fairweather’s first short film, premiered in early 2016.

also appeared in two episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s third season in March 2016. In the middle of 2016, she was cast as April in the new drama American Gothic. Corinne Brinkerhoff, the film’s producer, said of Lenz, “We adore her! She’s amazing. She portrays a witty, perceptive nurse at a rehabilitation center.”  In 2021, she launched Drama Queens, a podcast with One Tree Hill co-stars Hilarie Burton and Sophia Bush.

Following her departure from Guiding Light, Lenz completed a demo of original music. After seeing Nick Cassavetes’ film The Notebook and later reading Nicholas Sparks’ best-selling novel of the same name, Lenz found herself singing songs about the story’s characters around her house in 2005. She decided to write them down after six weeks. She pitched the idea to her producer, Ron Aniello, and the two decided to form Galeotti & Aniello Productions.

On December 7, 2006, Lenz announced on her website bethanyjoylenz.com that they were working on a musical. After finishing the libretto, Lenz gave it to a friend close to the Sparks family, who gave it to the book’s author. He adored it, and she obtained the rights to the musical. The auditions took place at Thalian Hall in early August 2009. Noah and Alli were played by Paul Teal and Kendra Goehring-Garett.

The Notebook musical was workshopped in a small black box theatre in October 2009 in front of Broadway producers and investors, as well as Nicholas Sparks, who came for the occasion. Lenz stated that all of the feedback she and Aniello received was positive.
