Caleb Yarborough, an American stock-car racer, set a record by being the first driver in NASCAR history to win the title three years in a row. When Yarborough first got behind the wheel of a stock vehicle, it was in the early 1960s. By 1968, he had won four NASCAR races, including the Daytona 500 and the Atlanta 500 (the latter of which he also won in 1977, 1983, and 1984). After two years of unsuccessfully racing USAC championship cars (1971–72), he finally broke through to win the NASCAR title in 1976, and then went on to win the next two consecutive years.

He completed 30 consecutive NASCAR races in 1977, an unprecedented feat for the sport. After 28 years in the military, Yarborough left in 1988 to pursue retirement. In 1986, he released a book on his life titled Cale: The Hazardous Life and Times of America’s Greatest Stock Car Driver, which he wrote with William Neely. Both the NASCAR Hall of Fame and the International Motorsports Hall of Fame have inducted Yarborough: the former in 1993, the latter in 2012.
