American retired professional baseball player Carlton Ernest Fisk, often known by the nicknames “Pudge” and “The Commander,” was born on December 26, 1947. From 1969 to 1993, he was a catcher in Major League Baseball with the Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox. He became the first player to win the American League  Rookie of the Year award in 1972.
