Daniel Radcliffe Bio
Daniel Radcliffe was born on 1989 July 23 in West London, England to Alan George Radcliffe and Marcia Jeannine Gresham. His dad is a literary agent and his mother worked as a casting agent for BBC. Radcliffe belonged to a working-class family; his dad is a profuse protestant and his mother belonged to the Egyptian religion. Both her parents had behaved in little acting jobs when they were kids.
He had been interested in acting professionally from the age of five but it was when he was eventually ten years old he got a part in BBC adaptation of Dickens’ book’David Copperfield’.
Radcliffe attended two separate private schools in England namely: Sussex House School and City of London School. He suffered from bullying in the school after he started getting famous through his films. It became hard for him to attend college because of his busy acting schedules and he chose not to pursue university or college as he knew already he would like to write and act and college education would come in the way.
Daniel Radcliffe’s parents initially refused to let him audition for the part of Harry Potter, but a chance meeting with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone director Chris Columbus led to an audition. The novels’ legions of fans seemed to agree that Radcliffe was perfect as the boy wizard, and he starred in every installment of the hugely successful eight-part movie collection. Moving on from Harry Potter, the actor performed on Broadway in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, also showed his flexibility through movies like Kill Your Darlings and Imperium.
The only child of a literary agent and a casting director, Daniel Radcliffe attained international stardom for his work from the Harry Potter movies, adaptations of their treasured best-sellers by J. K. Rowling.
Radcliffe made his acting debut in the 1999 television film David Copperfield, playing the young version of the title character. He soon landed a role on the big screen in 2001’s spy thriller The Tailor of Panama, with Pierce Brosnan and Jamie Lee Curtis.
But even before this film’s release, Radcliffe made headlines when he was cast as the lead in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. The 11-year-old actor joined fellow unidentified actors Rupert Grint and Emma Watson as Harry’s friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, in one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2001.
‘Harry Potter’ Fame
Published in November 2001, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone proved to be a box-office smash. Audiences loved Radcliffe as the lead character, an orphaned boy who attends a special school for wizards in training. And the fever surrounding the show only seemed to grow with every new movie.
The eight-film series spanned over a decade of Radcliffe’s life, revealing him rising from a tween into a young guy. And they supplied him with the chance to work with many distinguished actors, such as Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, and Helena Bonham Carter. Radcliffe found Oldman’s and Rickman’s careers especially inspiring, telling Backstage that”They never stop trying to get better and working with people they believe will bring something new from them.”
Although some might wonder whether he lost part of his childhood to the fame and achievement of Harry Potter, Radcliffe appears to have no regrets about the almost all-consuming job. “They have been great. For the most part I have been happy each and every day. And all of the times I have been unhappy, it has never been anything to do with Potter,” he informed Details magazine.
In later interviews, however, Radcliffe admitted he had a drinking problem during his teens and sometimes went to film scenes as Harry Potter still drunk from the night before. He’s been sober since 2010.
In 2011, the Harry Potter series ended its run with the then-record-breaking Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part two , which earned about $168 million during its opening weekend. But with this last movie came some sad goodbyes. Radcliffe told Time Out New York what he’d miss most about no more playing Harry Potter:”It is very rare in your career that you get to play an action hero. I am not the natural frame and prestige of an action hero, so that I might not have to play one again.” He also lamented that the movie series did not get more critical recognition, particularly in relation to Academy Award nominations.
After hosting Saturday Night Live in early 2012, Radcliffe headlined in the gothic horror thriller The Woman in Black as a widowed lawyer and dad who gets mixed up in supernatural trouble. Late that year he starred in the British TV series A Young Doctor’s Notebook, his name character shadowed during each episode by an older version of himself, played with Jon Hamm. The show was such a success with viewers that it had been renewed for another season.
Continuing to shed his magician boy picture, Radcliffe portrayed famed Beat poet Allen Ginsberg during his younger years in Kill Your Darlings (2013), together with Elizabeth Olsen, Michael C. Hall and Ben Foster. In 2014, he took on the role of Ignatius Perrish, the prime suspect in the murder and rape of his girlfriend, in the supernatural thriller Horns. He also starred opposite Zoe Kazan at the rom-com What If, before playing the faithful assistant Igor into the titular doctor of Victor Frankenstein the next year.
A trio of movies released in 2016 showcased Radcliffe’s desire to push his range as an actor: He played a corpse-turned-best friend of a suicidal castaway at Swiss Army Man looked as a conniving tech executive at Now You See Me 2; and starred as an FBI agent trying to infiltrate a white supremacist group in Imperium. That year that the actor also returned to the stage from the off-Broadway creation of Privacy.
Together with starring at the 2017 survival thriller Jungle, Radcliffe stayed immersed in the theater community with characters in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead in 2017 and The Lifespan of a Truth in 2018. In 2019, he returned to the small screen with a major part in the anthology comedy series Miracle Workers, playing with a low-level angel assistant to God in its very first season.
