Eagles Band  Band Bio

The Eagles are an American rock band that formed in 1971 in Los Angeles. The Eagles were one of the most successful musical acts in North America during the 1970s, with five number-one singles and six number-one albums, six Grammy Awards, and five American Music Awards. Foundin Linda Ronstadt and her then-manager John Boylan formed the Eagles in early 1971, when they recruited local musicians Glenn Frey and Don Henley for her band.Randy Meisner, who had previously worked with Ricky Nelson’s backing band, the Stone Canyon Band, and Bernie Leadon, a veteran of the Flying Burrito Brothers, later joined Ronstadt’s group of performers for her Silk Purse album promotion tour.

During the tour, Frey and Henley decided to form a band and informed Ronstadt of their plans. Later, Frey credited Ronstadt with suggesting Leadon for the band and arranging for Leadon to perform for her so Frey and Henley could approach him about forming a band. They also approached Meisner about the idea and got him on board. Although they only performed live behind Ronstadt once, at a July concert at Disneyland all four appeared on her eponymous album. Later, J. D. Souther was proposed to join the band, but Meisner refused

Geffen purchased Frey and Henley’s Amos Records contracts and relocated the four to Aspen, Colorado, to develop as a band.  Having yet to decide on a band name, they played their first show in October 1971 as Teen King and the Emergencies at Aspen’s The Gallery. The name “Eagles” came to them during a peyote and tequila-fueled group outing in the Mojave Desert. However, accounts of the name’s origin differ; Don Felder (who had yet to join the Eagles and was not present in the desert) credited Leadon with coming up with the name after reading about the Hopis’ reverence for the eagle,[while J.D. Souther suggested that the idea came when Frey shouted, “Eagles!” when they saw eagles flying above. [

In his autobiography, Steve Martin, a friend of the band from their early days at The Troubadour, recalls suggesting that they be referred to as “the Eagles,” but Frey insists that the group’s name is simply “Eagles.”  Geffen and partner Elliot Roberts initially managed the band; however, while the Eagles were recording their third album, they were replaced by Irving Azoff. Linda Ronstadt recruited members Glenn Frey (guitars, vocals), Don Henley (drums, vocals), Bernie Leadon (guitars, vocals), and Randy Meisner (bass guitar, vocals) as band members, some touring with her and all playing on her third solo album, before venturing out on their own on David Geffen’s new Asylum Records label. Eagles (1972), their debut album, produced two top-20 singles in the United States and Canada: “Take It Easy” and “Witchy Woman.” Desperado, the following year’s follow-up, only peaked at number 41 in the US, despite the fact that “Desperado” became a popular trackMeisner decided not to sing the song as an encore at the Knoxville concert.

Frey and Meisner then got into an angry physical altercation backstage, and Meisner left the venue. After the incident, Meisner was kicked out of the band and he decided to leave the group at the end of the tour and return to Nebraska to be with his family. His final performance was on September 3, 1977, in East Troy, Wisconsin. After deciding that Schmit was the only candidate, the band replaced Meisner with the same musician who had succeeded him in Poco, Timothy B. Schmit.

The group, minus Don Felder, performed instrumental work and backing vocals for Randy Newman’s album Little Criminals in 1977, including “Short People,” which features backup vocals by Frey and Schmit. 1977–1980: The Long Run, breakup The Eagles went into the studio in 1977 to begin work on their next album, The Long Run. The album took two years to complete. The Long Run was released on September 24, 1979. Although some critics thought it failed to live up to Hotel California, it was a huge commercial success; the album topped the charts and sold seven million copies. It also included three Top 10 singles.

n November 10, 1979, “Heartache Tonight” became their final single to top the Hot 100. The title track and “I Can’t Tell You Why” both peaked at number eight. The band won their fourth Grammy for “Heartache Tonight.” Walsh’s “In the City” and “The Sad Cafe” became live favourites. number 18 on the charts. Boz Scaggs’ single “Look What You’ve Done to Me” featured backup vocals from Frey, Henley, and Schmit. A different version with female backing vocals appears on the Urban Cowboy soundtrack, as does the Eagles’ 1975 hit “Lyin’ Eyes.” On July 31, 1980, tempers erupted in Long Beach, California, resulting in the “Long Night at Wrong Beach.”

Best of My Love,” which reached the top 15 in Australia, their first hit outside of the United States. One of These Nights, released in 1975, became their first number-one album in the United States and a top-10 album in many other countries. It featured the number-one hit in the United States, “One of These Nights,” as well as their first top-10 hit outside of North America, “Lyin’ Eyes” and “Take It to the Limit.” Joe Walsh, a guitarist and vocalist, took over for Leadon in 1975. Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975) (1976) was the best-selling album in the United States, selling 38 million copies. It primed the public for the late 1976 release of Hotel California, which sold more than 26 million copies in the United States (ranking third all-time in US sales) and more than 32 million copies worldwide.

The album produced two number-one singles in the United States and Canada, “New Kid in Town” and “Hotel California,” the latter of which became their only top-10 hit in the United Kingdom, as well as hits in New Zealand and many European countries, including number two in France. The climax of “Take It to the Limit” at a concert in 1976. (from Eagles Live). Meisner’s reluctance to sing the song, due in part to concerns about not hitting the high notes, led to disagreements and, eventually, his departure from the band. The Eagles had been touring nonstop for eleven months; the band was suffering from the strain of the tour, and Meisner’s stomach ulcers had flared up by the time they arrived in Knoxville in June 1977.

in Australia (number 13), as well as the North American top-10 hits “The Long Run” and “I Can’t Tell You Why.” The Eagles disbanded in 1980, but reformed in 1994 for the album Hell Freezes Over, which featured a mix of live and new studio tracks, and toured extensively. Long Road Out of Eden, the Eagles’ sixth number-one album in the United States, was released in 2007, and the Long Road Out of Eden Tour began in 2008. In 2013, they began the extended History of the Eagles Tour to coincide with the release of the documentary History of the Eagles. Felder and Walsh play a guitar duet. Felder, Henley, and Frey collaborated on the song’s writing. The enigmatic lyrics have been interpreted in a variety of ways, some of which are contentious. Rumors circulated that the song was about Satanism. The band and, later, Henley denied the rumour in the documentary film History of the Eagles.success, solidifying Walsh’s position in the band. The third and final single from Hotel California, it peaked at number 11 on the charts.

The ballad “Wasted Time” closes the first side of the album, and an instrumental reprise of it opens the second. The album concludes with “The Last Resort,” a song Frey once referred to as “Henley’s opus,” but Henley described as “fairly pedestrian” and “never fully realised, musically speaking.”]with no overdubs. In the liner notes of The Very Best Of, Henley confirms this.

However, the song was a source of contention between Don Felder and the rest of the band. Felder claimed in the 2013 documentary that he was promised the lead vocal on “Victim of Love,” for which he wrote the majority of the music. After numerous unsuccessful attempts to record Felder’s vocal, band manager Irving Azoff was delegated to take Felder out for a meal, removing him from the mix while Don Henley overdubbed his lead vocal. Hotel California was ranked 37th on Rolling Stone’s list of the best albums of all time[and is the band’s best-selling studio album, selling more than 26 million copies in the United States alone and more than 32 million copies worldwide. The album won Grammys for “Record of the Year” (“Hotel California”) and “Best Arrangement for Voices” (“New Kid in Town”)
