Finn rally driver Jari-Matti Latvala (born April 3, 1985) has raced in the World Rally Championship (WRC). Between the 2003 Rallye Deutschland until the 2019 Rally Catalunya, Latvala has Miikka Anttila as his co-driver throughout the majority of his career. Known for his aggressive driving style, he has been compared to the legendary Colin McRae. The most successful driver who has not won a championship, he has won 18 individual WRC events. After making his debut in 2000, it took Latvala another 17 years to become the driver with the most World Rally starts in the sport. After Tommi Mäkinen’s departure from Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT in 2020, he took over as team principal.

At age eight, Latvala got his first car—a Ford Escort—from his father, rally driver and 1994 Group N national champion Jari Latvala. Latvala first took his Opel Ascona out into a frozen lake when he was only 10 years old. Rally Great Britain in 2002 was Latvala’s first global rally, and he was just 17 years old. Using a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI, he came in seventeenth. In 2003, Latvala drove a Ford Focus WRC in four WRC races, placing 10th at the Acropolis Rally, 17th at the Rallye Deutschland, 14th at the Neste Oil Rally Finland, and 10th at the Rally Great Britain.
