American singer, songwriter, musician, and activist Joan Chandos Baez was born on January 9, 1941.  Her modern folk tunes often address political and social issues. Baez has been doing music for nearly 60 years, during which time she has released over 30 albums. She is not only bilingual (she can sing in both Spanish and English), but she has also recorded songs in at least six other languages. Though Baez is most known for her folk music, she has expanded her musical horizons since the 1960s counterculture to include folk rock, pop, country, and even gospel.
