Lake Chambers Speed is a former stock car racer from the United States. Prior to this, he raced in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, where he finished with a single victory in 402 attempts. Lake was called after Bob Lake, who was a close friend of his father’s. Lake was born in 1948, the same year that his father, Leland S. Speed, became Mayor of Jackson, Mississippi. At the age of thirteen, much to his family’s dismay, he began racing karts. Speed won the IKF National Championship six times and the Karting World Championship once, in 1978, beating out future three-time Formula One winner Ayrton Senna and other top drivers.

On September 27, 2015, 14-year-old Florida native Logan Sargeant defeated Speed to win the KFJ World Karting Championship, making him the first American to win a World Karting Championship since Speed in 1987. Speed still gets behind the wheel of a go-kart every once in a while and has won four races in the Historic Stock Car Racing Association on the 3.56-mile Daytona road track in a Purex-sponsored Ford from the 1980s in 2002 and 2003. Speed competes in the Spec 125 TaG 1 and 2 classes of the World Karting Association National Road Racing Series. For his achievements in sports, on July 30, 2010, Speed was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. Speed has been following the RHPK kart series closely since 2016.
