Mel Brooks is an American actor, comedian, and director. He was born Melvin James Kaminsky on June 28, 1926. He is renowned for having written and directed a number of popular broad comedies and parodies throughout the course of a career spanning more than seven decades. Alongside Woody Allen, Neil Simon, and Larry Gelbart, he started his career as a writer and comedian for Sid Caesar’s variety programme Your Show of Shows. With several of his films ranking in the top 10 grossers of their respective years of release, Brooks rose to prominence as one of the 1970s’ most successful film filmmakers in his middle age. The Twelve Chairs, Blazing Saddles , Young Frankenstein, Silent Movie, High Anxiety, History of the World, Part I, Spaceballs, and Robin Hood: Men in Tights are some of his best-known productions. His debut movie, The Producers, was adapted into a musical that performed on Broadway from 2001 to 2007 before being turned into a musical movie in 2005.
