Mike Downs, our company’s founder, has been involved in racing since 1968 and has won many SCCA Club races while driving a Group 44 Triumph. In the past, he has worked as a factory driver for Porsche, Triumph, and Datsun. In addition to that, he has raced in the IMSA Daytona 24-hour event, where he was victorious in his class, and he has also campaigned vehicles in the Trans-Am and Formula Atlantic series. In the middle of the seventies, I was in charge of Silverstone Enterprises, where I was responsible for preparing and driving Porsche Carreras for IMSA racing. The highlight of my career was winning my class in the Daytona 24-Hour Race.

In the late 1970s, I established Downs Engineering in the beautiful state of California, where I had previously lived. In the roughly twenty years that followed, I competed in Formula Atlantic, Trans Am, and IMSA GTO racing. In the new millennium, I won a championship while behind the wheel of a sports racing car that I had designed and constructed myself. At the moment, the shop is responsible for constructing racing vehicles from the ground up. In addition to designing and constructing specialty automobiles, we also restore classic racing vehicles. The shop is kept very busy developing new components for the Hayabusa engine as well as producing racing engines.
