Canadian screenwriter, producer, and filmmaker Norma Bailey draw heavily on feminist and intersectional cinema theory in her work. Bailey has directed a number of films, some of which were made in English and others in French, and some of which were made in genres ranging from fiction to documentaries. She has received several honours for her work in the film business, including the 2010 designation as an Officer of the Order of Manitoba.

After finishing her education at the University of Manitoba, Norma Bailey worked as a production assistant on David Cronenberg’s Rabid. After graduating from film school, she joined the National Film Board of Canada, where she directed The Performer (1980) for the Canada Vignettes series, which went on to win the jury award for best short film at the Cannes Film Festival.
