Robert Sylvester Kelly, an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and serial sex offender, was born on January 8, 1967. He was found guilty of racketeering and several sex crimes.  Kelly was charged in 2002 by the Cook County State’s Attorney with child pornography, but a subsequent trial in 2008 ended in a mistrial. Until the 2019 documentary television programme Surviving R. Kelly revisited claims of Kelly’s sexual assault with kids, Kelly avoided serious repercussions. Kelly’s contract with RCA Records was terminated as a result of backlash. Following the documentary, Kelly was the target of fresh criminal investigations in New York, Chicago, and Minneapolis. In July 2019, Kelly was detained on federal accusations.

Kelly has been a federal prisoner ever since bail was denied. Kelly was found guilty of racketeering and Mann Act offences during a trial in federal court in Brooklyn in 2021. Kelly was found guilty in a 2022 trial in federal court in Chicago on three counts of child pornography and three counts of luring a juvenile, but was cleared of charges of conspiring to obstruct justice in connection with his 2008 trial.A Brooklyn court gave Kelly a 30-year jail term; his Chicago court sentencing is scheduled for February 2023.  Kelly is a prisoner in the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago as of September 2022. He keeps questioning his two beliefs.
