Band Bio

R5 was a Los Angeles, California-based pop rock band formed in 2009.  Ross Lynch (lead vocals/rhythm guitar), Riker Lynch (bass guitar/vocals), Rocky Lynch Rydel Lynch (keyboard/vocals), and Ellington Ratliff (drums/vocals) were the members of the band.At the age of 16, Riker decided to relocate to Los Angeles in order to pursue an acting career.

Mark and Stormie, their parents, relocated the entire family there in order to remain together. The siblings began appearing in commercials shortly after the move, and Rocky began teaching himself, Ross, and Riker how to play guitar.  In 2009, R5 formally formed the band and launched their YouTube web series, R5 TV, which chronicles the band’s daily life and career start. [1On September 5, they released their first music video, directed by Riker, for “Without You.” [On March 9, 2010, the band self-released a five-track EP titled Ready Set Rock.

The band’s second tour, the East Coast Tour, began on December 15 in Jamestown, New York and travelled exclusively to the east coast in order to promote the band to a younger audience.  Additionally, they performed three special concerts dubbed the 3M Tour in Madison, Wisconsin on November 18, 2012, Milwaukee, Wisconsin on November 19, and Minneapolis, Minnesota on November 20, 2012. ]They released the four-song EP Loud on February 19, 2013, which debuted in the top three of the iTunes chart within 24 hours of its release.  Riker, Rocky, and Ross co-wrote one of the EP’s songs, “Here Comes Forever.” The R5’s debut single, “Loud,” was released on February 13 and serves as the album’s lead single.

In Japan, the song peaked at number 72, while in the United Kingdom, it peaked at number 199.  On August 16, 2013, they released “Pass Me By,” the second single from their debut album Louder. Louder was released on September 24, 2013 and quickly climbed to number two on the iTunes charts, earning it a spot on the iTunes End of the Year Album list as a “chart-topper.”  On December 25, 2013, Louder released their third single, “(I Can’t) Forget About You,” and shortly thereafter, the band’s official video was made available via the band’s website. Six of Louder’s eleven tracks were co-written by the band.




The album features the entirety of the Loud EP’s four tracks. R5 emb but it was removed once Ross was cast in the Disney Channel show Austin and Ally in March 2013. On February 19th, 2013, they released the EP Loud. Since the release of their self-titled debut album, Louder, on September 24, 2013, which peaked at number 24 on the Billboard 200, the band has embarked on a world tour. Their sophomore album, Sometime Last Night, was released on July 10, 2015, and debuted at number six on the US Billboard 200, as well as reaching the top twenty in five additional countries. Additionally, they have released five EPs, eleven singles, and a documentary, R5: All Day, All Night, which premiered in theatres on April 15, 2015.

Ross and Rocky announced in 2018 that they would embark on a new endeavour dubbed The Driver Era. All of the band’s social media accounts previously identified as “R5” have been renamed “The Driver Era.” There are only two characters in The Driver Era: Ross and RockOn the band’s website, a promotional video was released. Six of Louder’s eleven tracks were co-written by the band. The album features the entirety of the Loud EP’s four tracks. R5 began a 50-date North American tour in March 2013[19], followed by a tour of Australia later that year.

The band began the first leg of its first world tour in Warsaw, Poland, on February 5, 2014. They toured numerous countries throughout Europe, including Norway, Sweden, and Los Angeles’s Roxy. On April 16, 2015, the band’s concert film, R5: All Day, All Night, was screened for one night only in select Regal cinemas. Rydel and Ellington confirmed their relationship in the documentary. On June 2, the third single, “All Night,” was released alongside the album’s iTunes pre-order.  On June 11, R5 made their late-night television debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! with their performance of “All Night.” R5 announced the first leg of their Sometime Last Night Tour on April 6, 2015

The music video for “All Night” was released on July 8, 2015.  R5 released a music video for “I Know You Got Away” on October 17, 2015. The video was directed by Ross and edited by Rydel during the European leg of the Sometime Last Night Tour. R5 premiered a music video for “Wild Hearts” on Live Nation TV on December 18, 2015. The band directed the video during a trip to Las Vegas to celebrate Rocky’s 21st birthday.  R5 announced in June 2016 that they would perform at Kingston, Jamaica’s Youth Music Zone on July 9, 2016.  The band performed at Tokyo’s Summer Sonic Festival on August 20, 2016 and Osaka’s Summer Sonic Festival on August 21, 2016. Their third visit to Japan. Underworld, Fergie, and Weezer are also on the bill.

On April 5, they announced the release of their fourth EP, New Addiction, on May 12, 2017.  The EP features the single “If,” the original songs “Red Velvet,” “Lay Your Head Down,” and “Trading Time,” as well as a cover of INXS’s 1987 single “Need You Tonight.” The new single Hurts Good was released shortly after the release of New Addictions. Additionally, the band announced their New Addictions Tour, which will begin in the United States on June 17, 2017 and will include stops in Mexico, Europe, South America, and other countries.

On February 1, 2018, R5 uploaded a video titled The Last Show to their YouTube channel. R5’s Instagram and Twitter handles were then changed to The Driver Era on March 1, 2018, and all of R5’s previous posts were deleted. On March 2, 2018, they announced the band’s temporary hiatus and the formation of The Driver Era as a duo consisting of Ross and Rocky. Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Spain, France, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, and Israel are among the countries represented. Additionally, the band performed at the White House’s annual Easter Egg Roll and the Radio Disney Music Awards.

On April 24, 2014, the band was announced as the opening act for the Wango Tango Music Festival on Ryan Seacrest’s popular KIIS-FM radio show, On Air with Ryan Seacrest.  On May 30, 2014, the band released “One Last Dance” as the fourth and final single from Louder. They released the music video for “Rock That Rock,” a song written for Candymania’s Ring Pop, on June 9, 2014. The video features fan content. 2014–2016: When Your Heart Changed Its Mind About You and Sometime Last Night Members of the R5 in 2014 Members of the R5 in 2014 Heart Made Up on You, their third EP, was released on July 22, 2014. It features the tracks “Heart Made Up On You,” “Things Are Looking Up,” “Easy Love,” and “Stay With Me.”

On August 1, 2014, the music video for “Heart Made Up on You” was released. Sometime Last Night, R5’s second full-length album, was released on July 10, 2015. In interviews, Riker stated that their second album was “more mature” and that Ross contributed significantly to the record’s writing.  Ross stated that earlier in the year, the band completed and mastered an entire record, but scrapped it due to concerns that it was too similar to Louder and did not accurately reflect the band’s direction.

Originally, the album was to feature all four songs from the Heart Made Up on You EP. The band rewrote the entire album, taking a more active role in its composition, writing the majority of the album’s songs. Several of the bonus tracks included in the deluxe edition of Sometime Last Night were originally planned for the album
