Sebastian Vettel Bio

Sebastian Vettel is one of four children born in Heppenheim, former West Germany, parents Norbert and Heike Vettel. Vettel was intrigued as a child by a variety of activities, including motor racing, basketball, and music. Vettel admired former Formula One racer Michael Schumacher, iconic basketball player Michael Jordan, and late pop star Michael Jackson as a result of his fascination. After striving to follow in the footsteps of his childhood idol, Michael Jackson, he quickly found he lacked the talent.

Vettel did not perform well in school, but he did well enough to pass his high school graduation examination. His interest in racing, which he developed through karting since he was three years old, propelled him into kart series as a child of eight. Vettel shown tremendous promise as a young driver, and his career took off.

Vettel was admitted into the Red Bull youth team at the age of 11. Vettel’s skill was once again on display at Red Bull. Vettel won the Junior Monaco Kart Cup and several more races in 2001. Vettel raced in the German Formula BMW Championship in 2004 after being promoted to open-wheel cars. He won 18 of the 20 races he entered to claim the championship.

Vettel was promoted to Formula One in 2006, at the age of 18, to work as a test driver for BMW Sauber. He also raced in the F3 Euroseries, becoming runner-up. Vettel also made his Formula Renault 3.5 Series debut, finishing second. Vettel set the third fastest lap time in the Ultimate Masters of F3 following an accident at Spa-Francorchamps in which he nearly lost a finger. Vettel won his maiden Formula Renault 3.5 Series race at the Nürburgring in 2007. That year, he was promoted to Formula One on a permanent basis.

Vettel became the youngest driver to compete in a Grand Prix when he was promoted as a test driver to Formula One in 2006. Following assurance that he will remain in Formula One for the foreseeable future, he competed in the 2007 United States Grand Prix, finishing eighth.

Vettel joined Red Bull in 2007. He collided with Red Bull Racing’s Mark Webber at the Japanese Grand Prix, forcing both drivers to retire. Vettel finished fourth in the Chinese Grand Prix after starting in the seventeenth position on the grid.

Vettel’s 2008 season did not start well, as he was the only Formula One driver who had not completed a race after four races. He rebounded at the Italian Grand Prix, winning his maiden race in Formula One. He was also the youngest driver to win a Grand Prix. His victory earned him the moniker baby Schumi from the German press. After finishing sixth at the Singapore Grand Prix and sixth at the Japanese Grand Prix, he finished fourth in the Brazilian Grand Prix to cap a successful season.

Vettel was thus crowned Autosport’s Rookie of the Year. Vettel maintained his remarkable 2008 season in 2009, earning him the DHL Fastest Lap Award for securing multiple fastest laps. He finished second in the Formula One Championship and extended his contract with Red Bull through the 2011 season.

In 2010, Vettel, who had never led a championship, won five races to clinch the Formula One championship, making him the sport’s youngest champion. In 2011, he began his title defence by winning the Australian and Malaysian Grand Prix. Vettel finished the season with 11 victories and 392 points to defend his title. After finishing second and sixth in the Australian and Malaysian Grand Prix, he won his season-opening race in Bahrain. Singapore was his second victory of the season.

Vettel went on to win six races and accumulate 281 points en route to winning his third consecutive Formula One championship at the age of 25, making him the sport’s youngest triple champion. Vettel’s 2013 season was nothing short of magnificent. Vettel won 13 races this season, nine of them consecutively. He gained 397 points to win his fourth consecutive Formula One title. In June 2013, he signed a one-year contract extension with Red Bull.

Vettel chose #5 due to a new policy in Formula One allowing drivers to choose their numbers. However, as the defending World Champion, Vettel’s 2014 season starting position was #1. His 2014 season was a disaster, as he failed to win a single race. Vettel confirmed his departure from Red Bull in October 2014.

Vettel signed with Ferrari following his departure from Red Bull and made his Ferrari debut at the 2015 Austen Grand Prix. He went on to win the Malaysian Grand Prix and two additional races, finishing third in the Formula One championship. Vettel’s 2016 season was another huge disappointment, as he failed to win a single race. His 2017 campaign got off to a winning start with victory at the Australian Grand Prix. Additionally, he won the Bahrain and Monaco Grand Prix. It was revealed at the Belgian Grand Prix that he had signed a three-year contract extension with Ferrari. He finished the season as the F1 championship’s runner-up.

Vettel’s 2018 season was particularly noteworthy due to his tight battle with Lewis Hamilton for a fifth championship, dubbed Fight for Five by the media. He finished the season runner-up, 88 points behind winner Lewis Hamilton, after winning the Australian Grand Prix. Vettel had another poor season in 2019, winning just one race, the Singapore Grand Prix. He finishes sixth in the Formula One championship.
