Shania Twain was born Eilleen Regina Edwards in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, on 28 August 1965. When she was two years old, her parents divorced. She then moved in with her mother and two sisters. Shania and her sisters were then adopted by Jerry Twain, who eventually married Shania’s mother. The family expanded as a result of the birth of a sibling and the adoption of another. Her stepfather was a violent man who constantly clashed with her mother.

She began singing and performing at a young age. Music provided her with the sole peace in the middle of her everyday struggles. Her family was impoverished, and she supported herself by singing in clubs. She attended ‘Timmins High and Vocational School,’ where she sang for the local band ‘Longshot.’When she was barely 13, she was given the opportunity to perform on the CBC television show ‘Tommy Hunter Show.’

Following her high school graduation in 1983, she joined a band called ‘Flirt’ and traveled throughout Ontario with the band. Additionally, she began taking vocal lessons with a coach.

She was introduced to country singer Mary Bailey, who arranged for her to meet John Kim Bell.
