Shirley  Bassey  Born in Wales on January 8, 1937, Dame Shirley Veronica Bassey DBE  is a famous performer. Cardiff-born Bassey made his debut as a performer in 1953 while still a teenager. Bassey racked up 27 Top 40 songs in the UK during the next several decades, including two number ones.  She achieved fame after performing the theme music for the James Bond films Goldfinger (1964), Diamonds Are Forever (1971), and Moonraker (1973).


With the release of I Owe It All to You in 2020, Bassey made history as the first female artist to place an album in the Top 40 of the UK Albums Chart for seven consecutive decades. Bassey has also presented her variety show, Shirley Bassey, and appeared in various BBC television specials. Based on Bassey’s life and work, the television film Shirley was broadcast on BBC in 2011. She has played 45 times at the Royal Albert Hall since her 1971 debut there. In 1977, Bassey was honored as the inaugural recipient of the Brit Award for Best British Female Solo Artist. In 1999, she became a Dame because of her contributions to the theater. In 2008, her single “Goldfinger” was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Many other vocalists have been affected by her, most notably Aretha Franklin.
