Tomas Berdych Bio

Originally from the Czech Republic, Tomá Berdych was a professional tennis player in his earlier years. Undoubtedly one of his most notable accomplishments was making it to the final of the 2010 Wimbledon Championships, where he upset top seed and six-time champion Roger Federer in the quarterfinals and No. 3 Novak Djokovic in the semifinals before falling to eventual champion Rafael Nadal in the final. In the end, he was defeated in the final by Rafael Nadal, who won the match in straight sets.

When Berdych won the Paris Masters in 2005 as an unseeded player, it was the most significant victory of his career. He defeated Ivan Ljubicic in the finals. Berdych has advanced to the quarterfinals of each of the four Grand Slam tournaments this year. His success at Wimbledon that year was complemented by his progress to the quarterfinals and semifinals of the 2010 French Open when he stunned fourth seed Andy Murray in straight sets in the fourth round and did not drop a set until his loss to Robin Söderling in the semifinals.

When he reached the quarterfinals of the 2012 US Open, he defeated world No. 1, Roger Federer, twice before losing to eventual champion Andy Murray in the semifinals. At the 2014 Australian Open, he was defeated in the semifinals by eventual champion Stanislas Wawrinka in four sets, a result that earned him the title. He becomes only the second player (after David Nalbandian) to have defeated Roger Federer on multiple occasions in Grand Slam championships before reaching the semifinal stage.

It’s one of his great achievements to be one of only three players (the other two are Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Stan Wawrinka) to have defeated all four members of the Big Four in major championships. A major slam trophy is something that Berdych has yet to achieve, despite the fact that he is largely considered to be one of the best tennis players of all time.

Berdych has gotten to the finals of several events, including the Miami Masters in 2010, the Madrid Open in 2012, and the Monte Carlo Masters in 2015. He has also won the Paris Masters and reached the semifinals of the Miami Masters in 2010. During the month of May 2015, he got his highest singles ranking of No. 4, which was the first time in his professional career.

In addition, he and Luká Rosol won the longest ATP doubles match in history, defeating Marco Chiudinelli and Stanislas Wawrinka in the first round of the 2013 Davis Cup with scores of 6–4, 5–7, 6–4, 6–7, 24–22. Taking place on February 2, 2013, the match was scheduled to run a total of 7 hours and 2 minutes. ATP history records that this match was the second-longest ever played in the organization’s history (singles and doubles combined).

His parents, Hana Berdychová and Martin Berdych were both born in Valaské Mezi, Moravia, Czechoslovakia (and since 1993, the Czech Republic). Berdych began playing tennis at the age of three and began competing at age four. In his hometown and birthplace of Valaské Mezi, where he now resides, Berdych began playing tennis at the age of five at the local tennis center, where he continues to play now.

Martin’s father worked as an engineer for the railroads, and his mother is a doctor in addition to being a talented tennis player. As described by Berdych, his boyhood was one of happiness and fulfillment for him. Pardubice, Czech Republic, honored him as the country’s most outstanding young kid when he was just eight years old. As a kid, Berdych rapidly established himself as a top performer, winning the Czech Republic U-12 Junior Championship in his first year of participation.

The next year, he relocated to the city of Prostjov, where he was able to find more practice partners and coaches who were more qualified. As a result, Berdych made frequent visits to his hometown in order to retain his relationships with his former high school, which he attended. Because of the harshness of the winters in the Czech Republic, winter preparations were carried out in a sports hall rather than outside.

One of the reasons for Berdych’s fondness for hard courts, and notably indoor conditions, is attributed to the fact that he prefers the conditions. Berdych enjoys watching ice hockey in his leisure time, and his favorite team is the Detroit Red Wings, which he supports financially. Martin Straka, Jaromir Jágr, and Dominik Hayek, all of whom played in the National Hockey League and were members of the Czech team that won the gold medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics, are among the Czech players he has met.

Their passion for tennis has inspired them to travel to Prostjov on multiple occasions to watch Berdych compete with his teammates. His favorite surface is the hard court, and he considers his forehand and serves to be his most powerful shots on the court, respectively.

His personal fitness trainer is José Félix González Castilla, who works with him on a daily basis. He dissolved his long-term engagement with tennis pro-Lucie afáková, with whom he had been in a long-term relationship since 2005, in 2011. He announced his engagement to model Ester Sátorová in late 2014, and the couple has been together since. The couple exchanged wedding vows in July of 2015.

Among Berdych’s musical influences is the Irish rock band U2, and he wishes to meet the band’s vocalist, Bono, sometime in the future. Suits are his favorite television show, and he watches it every week. In football, Berdych is a supporter of the Arsenal team. During the year 2004, Berdych focussed on the Challengers circuit as well as the ATP Tour. In the Challengers competition, he finished first in France and second in Germany, among other accomplishments.

It was his maiden tournament on the ATP Tour, and he won it in four sets against Nicolas Mahut before losing to fourth seed Andre Agassi in the final. He also won matches against players such as Galo Blanco, Björn Phau, and Potito Starace during his time on the ATP Tour. At the 2004 French Open and Wimbledon, he made his professional debuts, but he was eliminated in the first round of both tournaments.

After that, he went on to represent his country at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where he placed third. With only five career ATP Tour victories, he moved past Florian Mayer in the first round and pulled off a spectacular upset in the second round by defeating world No. 1 Roger Federer in three sets.

In the following rounds, he defeated 15th seed Tommy Robredo in the round of 16 but was knocked out in the quarterfinals by Taylor Dent of the United States of America. Immediately after his Olympic triumph, he advanced to the fourth round of the 2004 United States Open, where he defeated Jonas Björkman, Tuomas Ketola, and Mikhail Youzhny before losing in three sets to Tommy Haas.

During the Campionati Internazionali di Sicilia in Palermo, Italy, he won his first ATP championship, defeating David Ferrer in the semifinals and Filippo Volandri in the finals to capture his first ATP title. The Touch Instinct MP paint job, which incorporates a Pro Stock Radical MP 16×19 under the hood, is being promoted by the Head as a result of Berdych’s sponsorship with the company.

Beginning in 2013, he raced with both the Graphene XT Instinct MP and the Graphene Instinct MP paint jobs on his motorcycle, which he won in both races. On his helmet, Berdych wore a paint job created by Head YouTek IG Instinct MP during the 2012 season of competition. YouTek Radical MP with a 16/19 string pattern was his pro stock head from the beginning of 2010 to the end of the 2011 season.

He played with this head from the beginning of the 2010 season to the end of the 2011 season. In 2010, he was sponsored by Dunlop Sport, and he raced on the Dunlop Aerogel 4D 200 rubber compound, which was developed just for him. Following the termination of his contract with Nike earlier in the month of January, it was announced in January 2013 that Berdych had signed a collaboration arrangement with Swedish fashion giant H&M.

The company hired him to serve as a spokesperson and he also worked as a co-designer of tennis apparel. While competing in the 2013 Miami Masters, Berdych debuted his new look on the court. Last year, Berdych inked an endorsement deal with Adidas and launched his first timepiece, which had been designed by Felio Siby. Berdych was re-appointed as a brand ambassador for the Italian garment line Hydrogen in 2018, a position he had held before since 2015.
