Tuukka Rask  Bio

Tuukka began his career with his hometown club Sapko in Savonlinna, Finland’s youth teams. Then, in the Finnish Junior League, he appeared in 27 games for Tampere’s Ilves Jr. With two shutouts and a.935 save percentage, his goals-against average (GAA) was 1.86Tuukka’s final European ice hockey season was spent as the starting goaltender for the Ilves senior squad in Finland’s top flight, the SM-liiga. Tuukka was selected in the first round (21st overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was traded to the Boston Bruins for former Calder Trophy winner Andrew Raycroft before playing a single regular-season game for Toronto. Rask was made disposable by Toronto management, who saw Justin Pogge as their future goaltender. During the 2013–14 NHL season, Rask was a member of the Boston Bruins.

The Bruins re-signed Rask to an eight-year, $56 million contract on July 10, 2013. Rask was won the NHL’s Vezina Trophy at the end of the 2013–14 season, which is given to the “goalkeeper adjudged to be the best at his position.” As the Bruins won their first Presidents’ Trophy since 1990 and led the Eastern Conference in team defence, he recorded a 36–15–6 record, highlighted by a career-best ten-game points-won streak from March 20 to March 30, going 9–0–1. (2.08 goals allowed per game). (2014–2017) Post-Vezina slump and injury Rask suffered a groyne injury early in the 2016–17 regular season, which limited his ability for the rest of the season after a spectacular October campaign in which he started the season with 12 victories and a.938 save percentage in 17 games. With the Bruins facing “backup goalkeeper” issues early in the season, he was likely used more than normal, but not enough to prevent him from leading the Bruins to their first playoff appearance in three seasons. Rask successfully had groyne surgery on May 9, 2017, after the Bruins lost a six-game quarterfinal series to the Ottawa Senators four games to two.

Rask stated in mid-August that he planned to be ready for the Bruins’ 2017–18 training camp.  Milestones in my career (2017–2021) Rask had a career-high 21-game point run in the 2017–18 season, which lasted from November 26 to February 10.  Rask and the Bruins finished the season with 50 victories and 112 points, their most since winning the Presidents’ Trophy in 2013–14. He only appeared in 54 games, his fewest since the 2013–14 season, and finished with a 34–14–5 record, 2.36 GAA, and.917 save percentage. The Bruins were beaten in the second round of the 2018 playoffs by the Tampa Bay Lightning in five games, with Rask appearing in only 12 games and posting a 2.88 GAA and.903 save %, his lowest since his first postseason in 2010.
