Wilson Cruz Bio

Cruz was born to Puerto Rican parents in Brooklyn, New York. Eventually, his family relocated to the city of Rialto, California, where he attended Eisenhower High School and went on to earn his diploma in 1991. When Cruz was just 19 years old, he came out to his parents as gay. Even though his mother was devastated at first, she soon came to terms with the news. In the end, his father kicked him out, and Cruz was forced to spend the following three months in his car and friends’ houses. He and his father were reunited in the end.

Cruz is an advocate for LGBT youth, particularly those of color, and works with them and their families. For the past year, he has hosted the Gay.com Youth Zone, an online forum for LGBT youth. This year’s Fierté Montréal Pride Parade in Québec was his third time as Grand Marshal. At the Lavender Graduation and Rainbow Banquet celebrating graduating LGBT students at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2008, he served as a keynote speaker.

As part of a leadership shift for GLAAD in 1997, Cruz joined the organization’s board of directors. In 2012, she became a National Spokesperson and Strategic Giving Officer for GLAAD. “Beautifully blends his activism into every part of his work” was how Out magazine described Wilson in its annual Out100 issue in 2020. At the outset of his acting career, Cruz vowed to be completely honest about his sexuality. In 1994, he landed the role of tormented gay adolescent Enrique “Rickie” Vasquez on the short-lived but critically praised My So-Called Life television series.

First, openly, homosexual actor to play an openly gay character in a leading role in an American television series Immediately following the termination of My So-Called Life, Cruz went on to play J. Edgar Hoover’s servant Joaquin in Oliver Stone’s Nixon and appeared in the television movie On Seventh Avenue. In 1996, he co-starred in Johns as Mikey alongside David Arquette as a male prostitute’s day-to-day challenges.

In the final season of Party of Five, he played Victor. Rafael de la Cruz, a character he played on Raising the Bar, was another recurrent role he had. Besides the films Joyride (1996), All Over Me (1997), and Supernova (2000), Cruz has appeared in the television movies The Perfect Pitch (2002) and Great Scott!, Sister, Sister, ER, Ally McBeal, The West Wing, Noah’s Arc, and Grey’s Anatomy as well as Party Monster (2003) and Margaret Cho’s Bam Bam and Celeste (2005). Cruz played Adrian in Ghalib Shiraz Dhalla’s The Ode (2007), which was based on the novel Ode to Lata.

In the Star Trek world, life is disrupted by a scientific anomaly, just like life on Earth is disrupted by the COVID-19 epidemic. Season 4 of Star Trek: Discovery premieres on Paramount+ Thursday, November 18th, with the crew of the ship taking on this new challenge. For the Third Day in a Row, New York State has set a record for the number of cases of COVID-19 infection. I’d appreciate it if you could offer a brief rundown of your characters’ backstories for those who may be unfamiliar with the show.

Paul Stamets, the science officer in command of the spore drive, is my character. That’s something you’ll have to look upon your own, as I don’t want to give away too much. Wilson Cruz plays my partner, with whom I am in a romantic relationship. We live together on the ship, and they both have significant responsibilities. One of the nice things about our narrative, I believe, is that both of us are excellent at our jobs, and we also strive to be excellent partners in our relationship. In the first season, when something truly tragic occurred and we had to navigate our way back to safety, there were some hazy and bumpy moments.

As a pair, we’re doing well right now. To put it mildly, it was disastrous. Dr. Culber is my patron saint of second chances. It is true that he has suffered greatly. But he’s used it to establish the life he deserves and the love he deserves with Paul, and now they’ve added Adira and Gray to that family. Paul and Hugh have taken these two young individuals under their wing and are mentoring them as they mature onboard the spacecraft and use their unique skills to benefit the galaxy as a whole. I don’t want to get into spoilers, but what can we expect from their relationship in the following season

Paul, in my opinion, serves to display Paul’s caretaking side in a way that he hasn’t always been able to. So it’s a nice perk for me. In spite of his workaholic tendencies, you’ve seen him become really dedicated to his profession. He’s incredibly intelligent and puts in a lot of effort, often at the expense of others. Nonetheless, I think there’s a lovely moment of attempting to strike a delicate balance between the two sides.

This season, Dr. Culber is taking on two roles. While the ship’s counselor, he has to cope with the crew’s high level of anxiety as they deal with this abnormality.  Like our critical workers around the world, he has to deal with his own fears as he takes care of everyone else while he deals with his own personal problems.

A great relationship between these two people who sincerely love and care for each other is shown to us throughout this trying period. To be honest, it was the topic I was planning on addressing next. This series is part of the Star Trek universe owned by Paramount+.

This season’s dynamic of organizations from across the galaxy working together to combat this menace is fascinating to me. As humans, we’ve been experiencing a lot of similar things over the past two years, don’t we? Yeah. People like Stamets, the character I play, are the ones to blame. In order to solve this problem, scientists and other scientists featured on the show need the assistance of these organizations, governments, and animals, and communities.

So, yeah, I think it certainly reflects the current state of affairs on Earth. The teamwork and strength brought to bear by these people to tackle this challenge should serve as a reminder to others that it will take all of us to join together and believe the science.

The reason why I think people should watch this season’s episode is that science isn’t perfect. You have to start with a few basic ones, and as you dig deeper, you’ll uncover even more. But we adapt and we get answers, and occasionally those answers turn out to be different than we had hoped or expected. In such cases, we have to readjust our expectations, especially if we’re dealing with a novel Coronavirus.

For one thing, there were different protocols for people in Canada than for Americans because of the mask requirements and your country’s involvement in the shootings in Canada. I’d like to know more about the modifications in production that were made to improve safety. Since you were one of the first to begin shooting again when this was reopened, how did that experience go for you? The production company we worked with and the crew in Canada we’re lucky enough to have a forward-thinking approach to the project.

All of the unions with which we are affiliated came together to discuss the best ways to operate safely using the most up-to-date knowledge from researchers, doctors, and epidemiologists. We experienced a few minor delays due to false-positive tests, but everyone was masking and testing and taking very great care and we made it through safely. Everyone realized that our safety depends on each of us working together.

Having our masks on while rehearsing, we didn’t get to see each other’s faces until we were actually filming the scene. It was bizarre. In a way, that’s what makes things fascinating and new, yet we’ve grown accustomed to the rhythms of constant change. All of us felt so fortunate that we had a job at a time when so many people were unemployed. In particular, the fact that we would be able to share this tale with them.

Additionally, given the conditions, our cast and crew were unable to spend much time together outside of work in order to prevent the spread of sickness. As a result, that was a challenging situation for us. This is a sign of how much we love each other because we were able to find methods to stay connected and still support each other. And yet, it was still an amazing show! Please accept my heartfelt gratitude for spending time with me today. Thank you for bringing us the Star Trek action we’ve been waiting for, even in the midst of uncertainty.
