Amanda Tapping Bio

Originally from Rochford, in the English county of Essex, Tapping and her family relocated to the province of Ontario, Canada, when she was three years old. She went to North Toronto Collegiate Institute, where she excelled in Environmental Science and Drama, among other subjects. However, after completing her degree in 1984, she opted to pursue a career in drama, enrolling in the University of Windsor School of Dramatic Arts in Windsor, Ontario, to further her education.

Tapping is married to Alan Kovacs, with whom she shares a home in Vancouver, British Columbia, with their two children. Tapping and Kovacs are the parents of a daughter. The traumatic difficulties Tapping has gone through with eight miscarriages during her marriage have been revealed freely in the hope that her tale may help other miscarrying women feel less alone.

Besides Tapping, he has two live brothers, Richard and Christopher; a third brother, Steven, who suffered from epilepsy and had frequent uncontrollable seizures, died in December 2006 for reasons that have not been disclosed by the Tapping family. Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Stargate Universe are the Canadian–American military science fiction television series in which she starred as Samantha Carter, and she is perhaps best recognized for this role.

Helen Magnus, a character she played in the science fiction-fantasy television series Sanctuary, is another of her credits. Following graduation, Tapping continued her studies in Theatrical Arts while also appearing in a number of theatre shows.

Aside from advertising, she has acted in a number of television and film productions, including episodes of The Outer Limits and The X-Files, in which she has played a range of characters. In the early 1990s, she collaborated with Katherine Jackson and Anne Marie Kerr to form the “Random Acts,” a comedy ensemble in Toronto that performed stand-up comedy.

After the final episode of Stargate SG-1 aired, Tapping returned to the character of Samantha Carter on Stargate Atlantis as the new commander of the Atlantis mission following the conclusion of the show. Tapping’s involvement in the program was downgraded to one of the “special guest-star,” with only sporadic appearances, in Season 5, as she elected to devote her time and energy to the production of a new Syfy series, Sanctuary, which premiered in 2015.

The show was built on the success of an original series of eight webisodes that were the first broadcast on the internet in 2007. The majority of the environment and figures were created entirely using a green screen and computer-generated imagery (CGI). Tapping appeared in the show as both a star and as the show’s Executive Producer. In 2007, she was recognized for her performance in the short film Breakdown with a Canadian Comedy Award for Best Actress.

On September 18, 2012, she was cast in the television series Supernatural as Naomi, an angel who appears in Season 8. A recurring character that appears in seven episodes, she was played by a female actor. It had been nearly five years after the character had been presumed dead when she returned to the role in season 13’s “Funeral.” She was also named ACTRA’s 2015 Woman of the Year, which is an honor.

It was during the seventh season of Stargate SG-1 that Tapping gained his first directing experience, on an episode named “Resurrection,” which was written by co-star Michael Shanks. “Veritas” is the title of the eighth episode of Sanctuary season two that she directed.

She has directed three episodes (6, 8, and 10) of Primeval: New World, three episodes (2.12; 3.06; 3.07) of Continuum and four episodes (5, 6, 9, and 10) of Continuum, and four episodes (5, 6, 9 and 10) of Continuum. Tapping has also directed five episodes of the Netflix Original Series Travelers (episodes 1.12, 2.4, 2.7, 2.8, and 2.9), as well as the season finale of the 2017 television series Anne with an E.

Tapping confirmed in an online fan Q&A with The Companion on Saturday that Wright had spoken with her about participating in a new series as well as directing it in a recent interview with the publication. Before joining the cast of Stargate SG-1, where she played Colonel Samantha Carter for ten seasons and two movies, she was a regular on Stargate Atlantis, where she was a prominent cast member.

It was presented by author and lifelong Stargate fan Sam Maggs, and it was centered on the topic of “Uplifting Women in Film and Television.” According to Tapping, “I’ve talked to Brad Wright about it, and I know that MGM was at one point really interested in doing it.” “I asked Brad, ‘Can you tell me what you want me to do on the show?’ And he replied, ‘Well, I want you to be in it, and I want you to direct it.’

He was serious. And I thought to myself, “Perfect!” ‘Thank you very much!'” Nonetheless, this does not rule out the possibility of a new series being developed in the future. On Twitter, today, Tapping clarified that “this is not a confirmation that the series will be produced.” Not at all. This was only a test to see if there was any interest.

According to my understanding, there is nothing in the works at the present.” Advertisment to be reported Amanda Tapping has been contacted about the possibility of a Stargate SG-1 reunion. Tapping revealed that Brad Wright had spoken with her about appearing in and directing his long-gestating film… if the project is given the go light by the studio.

According to my understanding, there is nothing in the works at the present.” CURRENTLY IN PROGRESS Indeed, Wright’s concept for a fourth live-action Stargate series has been in the works for quite some time. As far as we can tell from the outside, Wright has a pitch and a script prepared for MGM as of the spring of 2021, but no broadcast or streaming home has signed on the dotted line as of yet.

Because a show’s funding is generally derived from the broadcast agreement, MGM is unlikely to make any announcements until this element has been put in place. Wright began discussions with MGM late in 2018, following the success of the Web series Stargate Origins, which he was not engaged with at the time. The following month, Wright announced on social media that he was working on an unspecified “new Stargate project.”

Several brief updates on social media throughout 2019 and into 2020 revealed that his efforts to have the show picked up by a broadcaster or streaming partner had been significantly hampered by the COVID-19 epidemic, which was true of all television and cinema production in 2020.

Although fellow Stargate executive producer Joseph Mallozzi stated at the end of last year that the project was coming closer… it was still a long way away from being completed… If developing, pitching, and negotiating a deal to get a series greenlit were a seven-chevron dialing sequence, Mallozzi estimated that five chevrons had been locked by the time the series was greenlit.

Colonel Samantha Carter, who played Tapping on Stargate SG-1, is likely to be an Air Force General by now, and she isn’t the only character from the show who Wright wants to make an appearance on a future spin-off, according to Wright. Dr. Daniel Jackson’s dialogue has recently been written, according to actor Michael Shanks, who recently shared the news with the actor’s fellow actor.

A return of the Stargate SG-1 cast is like music to our ears. Although both Dr. Jackson and General Carter would certainly play supporting parts on a new show, they would most likely be featured as guest stars to introduce new characters and new settings, rather than as regular cast members. Both of Stargate SG-1’s previous spin-offs, Stargate Atlantis (2004) and Stargate Universe (2009), were launched in the same manner, using team members from the original series.

Tapping told GateWorld in 2018 that a new series in the Stargate franchise would require a healthy amount of the genre’s trademark slapstick humor, as well as a diverse cast of new characters. This is one thing that they were always good at putting together: Brad and Joe [Mallozzi] and Paul [Mullie] and Rob Cooper were always terrific at putting together ensembles that made sense and worked well together,” says Rob Cooper

In an interview with Maggs, she stated, “I believe it is time for a new generation.” “I’d want to play a role in it, without a doubt.” “Supersonic General Carter! ” I recall the day I was promoted to Colonel (Full Bird)… “I now want to be a Brigadier General or something equally as awesome and impressive.”

Make sure to check out The Companion to hear the rest of Amanda’s talk! It lasts 90 minutes and is available only to subscribers as a special treat for them. (The discussion about a new Stargate project begins around the 59:30 mark in the recording.)

Among the topics Amanda discusses are the difficulties of prepping and directing, the distinction between “diversity” and “inclusion,” the progress of on-set technology, and pushing for herself as an independent female filmmaker. Also mentioned was her presence on Brad Wright’s new podcast “Conversations in Sci-Fi,” as well as a chat on mental health for The Companion, which will air in the near future.
