Ben Platt was born Benjamin Schiff Platt on September 24, 1993 in Los Angeles County, California, United States of America. He is an actor and the fourth of five children born to Julie (née Beren) and Marc Platt in Los Angeles. His father is a producer for film, television, and theatre, with credits that include Legally Blonde, Into the Woods, La La Land, Mary Poppins Returns, and the musical Wicked. He is a devout Jew, as is his family. He attended Pacific Palisades’ Adderley School for Performing Arts, where he appeared in productions such as Bye Bye Birdie and Into the Woods. Platt graduated from Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles in 2011. He then enrolled in New York’s Columbia University but dropped out after seven weeks to fulfil his contract with The Book of Mormon.
