If yes, so you came to the right place. We have shared his fanmail above. This article will give you all the information you need about Don Garlits.

Born in Tampa, Florida on January 14, 1932, Donald Glenn Garlits is a race car driver and automotive engineer in the United States. Fans of the motorsport of drag racing around the world refer to him as “Big Daddy” because of his status as the sport’s progenitor. After losing part of his foot in a dragster accident, he was inspired to perfect the rear-engine Top Fuel dragster, which made him a pioneer in the sport. By placing the bulk of the dragster’s fuel processing and rotating elements behind the driver, this design significantly increased safety. The driver is shielded from any potential catastrophic failure of the mechanical components and has access to a wide range of safety features in the case of a fire or other emergency.

Garlits advocated for and helped popularize the Nomex driving suit, which includes a hoodie, pants, socks, gloves, and a balaclava to keep out the cold and the flames. Among the first to do so, Garlits was also the first drag racer to officially go over 200 miles per hour in the eighth of a mile . Throughout his career, he has been honored with induction into multiple Halls of Fame and numerous honors. Many air force sites and landing grounds in the central and western United States were closed after World War II. It was great fun to drag race on these deserted runways. In 1954, Don Garlits built his first drag race car in the backyard of his North Tampa house, beneath an oak tree. He reworked a classic 1927 Ford Model T Roadster with the use of an arc welder and a cutting torch.
