The third season of Day’s The Guild was set to premiere on August 25, 2009, according to the last minutes of the music video. Felicia Day is an actress, creator of web series, podcaster, author, mother, and the Queen of Geek. Her credits alone span a wide range of our favourite fandoms. To name a few, there’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Supernatural, The Guild, and Doctor Horrible. These were just the beginnings of Felicia’s efforts to create a space for not only herself, but all the other geek gals on the planet.
Her first book, You’re Never Weird On The Internet…Almost, was a self-help book for me when it came out four years ago. It did, however, leave me wanting more. I knew Felicia had a wealth of knowledge to impart, not only about the wonderful geeky world we all adore, but also about her own personal journey to self-discovery. She overcame depression, anxiety, social awkwardness, stereotypes, and even a serious gaming addiction to get to where she is now, and she hopes that her new book will be a companion to help you along your own path. Felicia Day takes you on a journey to discover, rekindle, or expand your creative passions in Embrace Your Weird.

Felicia Day transformed her passion and fandom into a successful career in the entertainment industry as she grew up. Outside of the niche internet world, she is best known for her roles as Vi in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series, Dr. Holly Marten in the Sci-Fi favourite Eureka, and Charlie Bradbury on the popular, long-running Supernatural.

Whatever it is, Day has a devoted following, which is why fans will want to see her latest film, Pooka Lives! Pooka Lives!, the latest instalment in the Hulu Into The Dark series, not only stars Day but also features her as a co-producer. Day recently took the time to talk about her work on Pooka Lives!, her foray into entertainment, and her thoughts on cyberspace today, among other things.

Cryptic Rock – You’ve been an actress for more than two decades. You’ve had success developing interesting material for both television and film, and you’ve also had success creating captivating content for the internet. First and foremost, tell us what motivated you to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.

Felicia Day is a character in the film Felicia Day. I’ve always been interested in theatre. My aunt was a theatre major who worked in New York for a while, and it was she who introduced me to children’s theatre in Huntsville, Alabama. That’s where the bug bit me. I enjoyed being among people, and because I had been home-schooled for most of my life, being around people at the theatre provided me with the most socialisation. It gave me the impression that this is where my family is.

I went to college and earned several degrees, but I always knew I wanted to go to Hollywood and work as an actress since that is what I enjoy doing. The business of Hollywood, on the other hand, was nothing like what I expected to happen, so it was unique. At the end of the day, I find incredible initiatives that make me feel like part of a family. Pooka Lives! was another one that did that for me.
Cryptic Rock (Cryptic Rock) – It’s fascinating to hear. You come from a diverse background; you’re a musician who has also excelled intellectually. Was there ever a time when you thought about going into music or academia?

Felicia Day is a character in the film Felicia Day. I enjoy being on a college campus, and I’ve been thinking recently, “What can I do to return to school?” I did play the violin, and there was a distinct possibility that I could have pursued a career as a musician. I’m the type of person who takes a lot of risks, so the safety net isn’t as crucial to me as it should be. Although I’m a little more conservative now that I’m a mother, I always go with my gut feeling, and my gut instinct was that I wanted to be a performer.

The nice thing is that when I’m an actor, writer, or producer, everything I’ve done before comes into play. When I’m playing a scientist, I use precise, scientific jargon whether I’m playing a musician on-screen, giving music notes, or accounting for my arithmetic. When you’re an actor, all of those factors come into play, and I enjoy that aspect of my job.

Cryptic Rock – It’s fantastic that you’re able to explore all of your different sides. Pooka Lives!, your most recent film, premiered on Hulu’s Into The Dark series on Friday, April 3rd. How did you get involved with the production, which is a humorous horror film?

Felicia Day is a character in the film Felicia Day. This project was written by my producing partner Ryan Copple. He handed it to me, and I believe he had written a small bit for me. I joined the team early in the process. I’m also a producer on the project, so I was heavily involved in the development of the storey, casting, and editing. It was exciting to have my voice heard in those areas, as well as being an on-screen performer.
