American singer and songwriter Janelle Meredith Arthur (born December 12, 1989) placed fifth on the 12th season of American Idol. Arthur’s parents, Gentile Dean Arthur and Judy Arthur welcomed him into the world on December 12, 1989, in Oliver Springs, Tennessee. She is a lifelong member of the Churches of Christ in Oliver Springs,  which she attended as a child and continues to worship now. At the young age of eight, Arthur represented Dolly Parton in a play on the singer’s life that was performed at Dollywood. Arthur began his career in the entertainment industry in 2001 when he joined the cast of the Country Tonite Theater in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

After growing up, Arthur continued his acting career on the Country Tonite Theater stage for another four years. From 1998 through 2009, she gave more than three thousand performances in the Pigeon Forge region. Arthur relocated to Music City, USA’s Nashville in 2010 to seek a career in music. Arthur went to Charlotte, North Carolina, for the audition. She had previously attempted to audition in both the tenth and eleventh seasons. She was eliminated in the group stage during the 10th season but advanced to the Las Vegas round on the 11th. She sang Elvis Presley’s “If I Can Dream” in the semi-finals of Season 12. She made it into the top 10 on March 7th, 2013. On April 18th, 2013, she was the sixth contestant to be eliminated.
