Jimmy Vasser’s birthplace was the Californian city of Canoga Park. He is a famous NASCAR driver from the United States. When racing with Chip Ganassi in 1996, Vasser won the Champ Car championship. He has ten career wins in the series. Although his rookie teammate Alex Zanardi outscored him in the second half of the season and over the following two years, he won four of the first five races in 1996 and did enough to hold a lead in the standings. He quit the club at the conclusion of 2000 after a disappointing 1999 season driving alongside Juan Pablo Montoya and has since tried his hand at a number of other endeavors. In 2004, he joined forces with Dan Pettit and Kevin Kalkhoven to form PKV Racing, a two-car business for which he would eventually become a co-owner and driver.
After the inaugural race of the 2006 season at Long Beach, it is unknown whether he will continue racing with PKV Racing since they have already hired 2 full-time drivers. Since just 17 other drivers have started both of the first two races, it is possible that, since his team co-owner Kalkhoven has an investment in the ChampCar series itself via promotor contracts, he will also start the races that need 18 cars. In addition to the 24 Hours of Daytona, Vasser raced in two further Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series events for GAINSCO/Blackhawk Racing in 2006. After making his Champ Car debut in 1992, Vasser was seen as a potential successor to greats like A.J. Foyt and Rick Mears. In spite of his success behind the wheel, Vasser’s prime years were spent outside of the Indianapolis 500 since they coincided with the historic “split” between the CART and the IRL (Indy Racing League), but he has competed in the race on occasion since then.
