American film director, producer, editor, and actor Joseph James Dante Jr. (/dnte/; born November 28, 1946). His movies often combine elements of 1950s-style B flicks with cartoon humour, most notably in Gremlins (1984) and its sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990).In addition to Piranha (1978) and The Howling (1981), Dante has directed Explorers (1985), Innerspace (1987), The ‘Burbs (1989), Matinee (1993), Little Soldiers (1998), and Looney Tunes: Back in Action (2000). John Sayles was brought in by Dante to rework the screenplay for The Howling, a werewolf thriller based on a book by Gary Brandner.
