In 1968, Dante put together The Cinema Orgy, a seven-hour long montage of movie snippets, ads, and trailers. After co-directing Hollywood Boulevard with Allan Arkush, he became an editor on Grand Theft Auto. To follow up on the success of Jaws, he directed and starred in the 1978 Roger Corman picture Piranha. Dante is uncredited for his work as an assistant director on Rock ‘n’ Roll High School (1979), which he did after Allan Arkush became sick from fatigue.
