Born in Brazil on August 11, 1984, Lucas Tucci di Grassi is a professional race car driver currently for Mahindra Racing in the FIA Formula E World Championship. In 2016–2017, he won the FIA Formula E title. In 2005, he took first place at the Macau Grand Prix. Di Grassi, a native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, began racing karts at the tender age of ten and quickly rose to prominence in both the provincial and national kart championships. In 2002, he moved up to auto racing and finished second in both the Formula Renault 2.0 Brazil and Formula 3 Sudamericana titles.

After winning the 2004 British Formula Three Championship twice in a row, Di Grassi moved on to the 2005 Euro Series, where he won a single race and the 2005 non-championship Macau Grand Prix. The next three years saw him competing in the GP2 Series, where he won four races and ultimately placed second in 2007 behind Timo Glock. After a season of Formula One racing with the Virgin Racing team in 2010, di Grassi was released. After that, Pirelli hired him around the middle of 2011 to be their official tyre tester and he helped create the company’s next generation of tires.
