In 2007, he competed for PKV Racing in the Champ Car series in North America. He has also been a Formula One test driver and won a race in the GP2 Series. Jani, who began his career in karting in 1998 and competed for two years before going on to Formula Renault 2000 Eurocup the following year, was born and raised in Rorschach. The same year he also competed in few races in Italian Formula Renault. In 2002, he continued doing both, albeit he participated in fewer races in the Italian Formula Renault series. He started racing for the Jenzer team in the Formula Renault V6 Eurocup series in 2003. With Jenzer Motorsport, he almost missed out on the title that year, coming in second by a score of 98 to 99. He told the Swiss press, “This year, it is victory or nothing.” There is a lack of reference for this section.
