The late Rick Wilson raced in the NASCAR Winston-Cup series. He made his racing debut in 1980 and finished in the top 10 an impressive 23 times. The NASCAR website claims that he is most remembered for finishing “close, side-by-side second behind Bill Elliott in Daytona’s summer race in 1988.” He also became well-known for driving the No. 44 vehicle for Petty Enterprises following Richard Petty’s retirement. He began his racing career in 1990 with RahMoc Enterprises and then spent the next season with Stavola Brothers Racing. The Stavola Brothers released him from his ride after the 1992 Daytona 500. Because of the weather, the Bristol race he won had to be moved to Monday. With 161 of the 200 circuits in front, Wilson easily won the race. In 1989 at Martinsville, Wilson started second and led 160 of 200 laps when his engine blew. He ended up finishing 21st. Wilson’s last NASCAR race was in 1998. In 2010, Wilson beat out other former NASCAR drivers to win the Scotts EZ Seed Showdown.
