American stock car racer Tyler Ankrum is a professional in his field. Regularly driving the No. 16 Toyota Tundra for Hattori Racing Enterprises, he participates in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. DGR-first Crosley’s racing series title came in 2018 when Ankrum won the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. To my knowledge, Ankrum is the first driver born in the year 2000 or later to win a race in NASCAR’s national series. Ankrum began his racing career with quarter midgets on the west coast of the United States and has now progressed to late models. He was just 14 when he took first place in a late-model race at Caraway Speedway. Ankrum is still competing in super late model events around the nation. He came in third at the 2018 Rattler 250 and first at the 2015 Fall Brawl at Hickory Motor Speedway. After competing in the CARS Tour Late Model Stock class for a year, he made the move to the Super Late Model late in 2015.
He was able to keep his playoff hopes alive by securing a start-and-park ride with NEMCO Motorsports for events, not on his DGR-Crosley schedule. After Brett Moffitt ran out of gas on the final lap of the Kentucky race on July 11, 2019, Ankrum took the checkered flag to earn his maiden Truck Series victory. First victory in the Truck Series for DGR-Crosley as well. The victory got him into the postseason, but he was eliminated in Round 6. To compete in the 2020 Truck season, GMS Racing announced Ankrum’s signing on November 14th. Returning to the Toyota fold in 2022, he will pilot the No. 16 machine for Hattori Racing Enterprises.
