This is former Italian racing driver Andrea Lodovico de Adamich (born October 3, 1941). He made his Formula One debut on January 1, 1968, and went on to compete in a total of 34 Grands Prix throughout the world. He contributed six points to the winning team. Many more Formula One races outside of the championship circuit had his presence as well. De Adamich’s parents were Croatian immigrants who settled in Trieste. Andrija Ljudevit Adami, one of his forebears, was the most influential and successful merchant in all of 18th-century Rijeka. Even though he was one of the rare drivers to have worn spectacles to race in Formula One, Andrea de Adamich, a seasoned veteran of saloon and sport-car racing, delivered respectable results when given the opportunity to compete in the series.
He began his lengthy partnership with Alfa Romeo by winning the European Touring Car Championship in 1966, and he made his Grand Prix debut in the 1968 South African race when his Ferrari skidded out on oil. Although he won the South American Temporada F2 Championship in Argentina with Ferrari later in the season, the Italian team did not keep him, and he eventually went back to the Alfa Romeo squad when they entered F1 to supply engines to a third works McLaren. With the McLaren-Alfa, De Adamich managed just one finish in 1970, and when the engine deal was moved to March the following year, he fared no better.
