Josh Berry, driving for JR Motorsports in the Late Model division, won six races in 2019, the biggest of which being the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway. Until 2019, the 29-year-old Tennessee driver and JRM had never won the race, which is the largest for Late Models in the Southeast. At age eight, Berry started racing, first in the Tennessee Karting Association and then, in 2001, in the prestigious World Karting Association. Berry and his father decided to advance his career to U.S. Legend cars in 2006 after he had already raced go-karts for many seasons. After three years of racing at Nashville, Tennessee’s famous Fairgrounds Speedway, Berry had amassed a staggering 21 feature wins and track titles.
Dale Earnhardt Jr., the team’s owner, picked Berry out of high school in 2010 and brought him into the JRM Late Model program that spring. In less than two years, he went from unknown to Speed51.com’s Late Model Most Popular Driver. In 2012, Berry rode the wave of fame to track success, winning the NWAAS championship at Motor Mile Speedway. One of the most dominant drivers of the year, he finished in the top five in 15 of 18 races and in the top ten in 17 of 18. Since its founding in 2002, JR Motorsports has fielded a full lineup of drivers in local events, including TJ Majors, Richard Boswell, Christian Eckes, Anthony Alfredo, Sam Mayer, and Adam Lemke are just a few of the recent drivers.
